What's in a Ruby & Sapphire booster pack

Ruby & Sapphire ships the standard 9-card EX-era booster layout: 1 Rare or Holo Rare in the rare slot, 3 Uncommon, 3 Common, 1 Basic Energy, and 1 guaranteed Reverse Holo. The reverse-holo slot is what shifts the EX-era pack EV upward compared to the older reverse-holo-less WotC layout — every pack carries a holo regardless of the rare-slot outcome.

Pokémon-ex cards land in the rare slot at roughly 1-in-6 packs across the EX era. Gold Star cards (where applicable) sit deeper at about 1-in-30 packs, drawn from the same rare slot. Every pack also has independent chances at Secret Rare and shifting per-set chase pulls. The simulator runs the exact rare-slot distribution each set published — pull-rate values come straight from packGenerator.ts and are mirrored into per-card landing pages.

Ruby & Sapphire Pack Pull Odds

  • Holo Rare: 28.0% of rare slots (14 possible)
  • Pokemon-ex: 24.7% of rare slots (8 possible)

Top chase cards in Ruby & Sapphire

The highest-priced chase cards currently tracked from Ruby & Sapphire on TCGplayer, in market-value order. Each one links to the dedicated chase pull-odds page, which shows the exact per-pack hit rate, 50%/95% confidence bands, and a pack-rip-vs-single-buy breakdown. These are the cards that drive Ruby & Sapphire's expected pack value.

The complete top-25 Ruby & Sapphire market-value list ranks every priced card in the set; the Ruby & Sapphire binder calculator shows how many packs it takes to complete the full checklist.

Expected pack value (2026)

The full expected-value math for Ruby & Sapphire booster packs — average payout per pack across thousands of independent rolls at current TCGplayer market prices — lives on the dedicated EV calculator at /ev/ex1. That page weights each rarity tier by its actual rare-slot probability and aggregates against the live price snapshot, so the EV figure reflects the same RNG the simulator uses. Use it to decide whether sealed-pack rips beat single buys for your specific target chase.

Binder completion outlook

Completing the full 109-card Ruby & Sapphire binder is a coupon-collector problem: lower-rarity slots finish fast, the rarest tier dominates the tail. The breakdown — expected packs to 95% completion, the bottleneck rarity, sealed-cost vs singles-cost comparison — lives at /binder/ex1. Track in-simulator progress on the Ruby & Sapphire collection screen.

Prefer ripping packs on your iPhone?

PackRip: TCG Card Packs is a separate native iOS app built around the same pack-opening ritual — rarity tiers, pity guarantees, offline play, App Badging when daily packs reset. It ships its own original card artwork rather than the Ruby & Sapphire checklist, and it keeps a separate save from the web simulator. See the iOS app or grab it on the App Store.
